Williamsburg/James City County - Head Start

The holistic approach is the driving force behind Health Services at Head Start. Learning is greatly affected by a child’s health, which is why it is important that our children’s health and development needs are met. To ensure this, our goal is to provide the best medical, dental, nutrition, and mental health wellness screening, follow-up, and treatment services to the children and families we serve.

Through health education trainings, our staff and parents will continue to increase their knowledge and skill level, thereby benefiting the children we serve. One of our goals here at Head Start is to promote preventative oral care. It is our expectation to see each child and its family receives yearly dental follow-up care. Our primary goal is to increase family involvement in early intervention, and prevention of childhood obesity, diabetes, physical activity, nutrition, immunizations, lead screenings, health insurance, and other health related issues.

The W-JCC Head Start partners with others to provide health screenings and referrals and to educate families about navigating the health care system. Our objective is to ensure that all Head Start students receive adequate medical, dental, nutritional, and mental health services, and that all disabilities are accommodated.
